Arizona Sports Betting

This page provides a complete overview of the Arizona sports betting landscape. We’ll do so by showcasing the best Arizona sportsbooks, explaining how to sign up and take advantage of the latest promos, and highlighting key moments in the history of gambling in AZ.

| Last Updated:

Arizona sports betting is one of the largest markets in the United States; its $18.5 billion lifetime handle as of October 2024 is the seventh-highest total in the country. With 12 online sportsbooks and 20 retail/in-person betting locations in AZ, there are ample gambling opportunities for those who wish to pursue them.

Best Arizona Sportsbooks

Bettor In Green has worked hard to thoroughly test all licensed, legal Arizona sportsbooks to analyze their performance and rate their features fully. For more detailed and specific information for each operator, click the link under each header to read our sportsbook reviews and promotional information pages.

While deciding on the best sportsbooks in Arizona, we concede that sports bettors will value various aspects of sports betting differently. Factors including which sports are offered, what type of bonuses are available (and how frequently), rewards program benefits, mobile app performance, and more can and will impact bettor interest differently.

To that end, the sportsbooks we’ve considered for best Arizona sportsbooks are the ones we feel will provide the most appeal to the widest-reaching group of bettors based on our assessment of those important attributes.

DraftKings Sportsbook AZ

DraftKings Sportsbook Arizona

DraftKings largely benefitted from its roots as a daily fantasy sports (DFS) operator in Arizona before sports betting ever went live in the state. DFS sites were introduced as an alternative to sports betting prior to the Supreme Court’s reversal of the Professional and Amateur Sports Protection Act of 1992, so many Arizona bettors were already somewhat familiar with DK by the time sports gambling launched statewide.

Since then, DraftKings has virtually alternated months at the top of the Arizona sports betting handle totals with FanDuel (which we’ll discuss in a moment). DraftKings Sportsbook Arizona has a coverage of in-play betting markets that is impressive even among niche sports, with one of the smoothest interfaces for live wagering in the industry.

Pros:

  • Thorough FAQ pages are an excellent launch point for novice sports bettors
  • Impressive selection of live betting markets
  • Convenient banking options make for easy money management

Cons:

  • The support chat won’t directly connect you to a live person. If the AI chatbot can’t resolve your issue, you’ll be referred to email support.
  • Odds in niche markets carry greater juice in DraftKings’ favor than for “Big Four” markets
  • Phone support is also unavailable

Bettor In Green’s Opinion: DraftKings has earned a reputation as one of the top sportsbooks not just in Arizona but across the country. It should be a frequent option in your online bookie rotation.

bet365 Sportsbook AZ

Bet365 Spotsbook Arizona

bet365 Sportsbook Arizona is worth including in your betting repertoire for successful line/odds shopping, which is the practice of browsing multiple sportsbooks to find subtle differences in the listed odds and lines among betting markets. Doing so helps you earn more money on winning wagers and bet365 frequently offers competitive lines and odds that favor users against the bookie’s other Arizona competitors.

Bettor in Green has noticed through the years that bet365 has often required the lowest qualifying wagers to be eligible for sportsbook bonuses. In some cases, a wager of as low as $1 in any market qualified new gamblers to earn as much as $200 in bonus bets, representing a supreme value relative to the initial risk.

Pros:

  • Valuable welcome bonuses provide solid benefits for a relatively low initial cost
  • Frequent odds boosts for returning users
  • Coverage of niche sports, including esports, cricket, and cycling surpasses many other Arizona bookies

Cons:

  • bet365 has received criticism in recent years over its decisions not to honor prop bets at posted odds following player injuries
  • Could implement more deposit/withdrawal options
  • Android users reported app issues more frequently than users on Apple devices

Bettor In Green’s Opinion: Bettor In Green comfortably recommends bet365 Sportsbook for Apple device users and those betting on a desktop website, but we advise Android users to proceed cautiously.

Caesars Sportsbook AZ

Caesars Sportsbook Arizona

Caesars Sportsbook AZ runs a retail operation at Chase Field (home of the Arizona Diamondbacks), opening the bookie in June 2022, roughly nine months after the online sportsbook launched. Whether you’re betting on a mobile device or in person, the bets you make will earn points for the Caesars Rewards program, which can earn many lucrative perks including betting bonuses, discounted casino stays, event tickets, shopping discounts, and more!

Another popular feature Caesars offers on its online platform is live-streaming, which is available for many events you’ve placed a wager on (either before or during the game), including on select NFL games. As online betting operators continue to expand streaming services, we expect Caesars to continue pushing to expand this offering.

Pros:

  • Live streaming available for many sporting events after placing a wager
  • Early cashout is regularly accessible
  • Offers one of Arizona’s leading sportsbook loyalty programs

Cons:

  • Odds boosts are frequent, but they oftentimes lack logical inclusion on a betting slip
  • Welcome bonus offers typically require considerable financial investment to maximize the return ($1,000+ to maximize a deposit match or second-chance bet)
  • Desktop site can be clunky to navigate at times

Bettor In Green’s Opinion: In general, Caesars Sportsbook Arizona is more likely to appeal to experienced bettors with larger bankrolls than to new gamblers. However, there is still value and viability for a broad range of bettors.

Fanatics Sportsbook AZ

Fanatics Sportsbook Arizona

Fanatics Sportsbook Arizona came into existence after sports merchandise and memorabilia titan Fanatics bought out all of PointsBet’s gambling licenses in the U.S., marking the company’s first foray into the gambling space. After converting all of PointsBet’s platforms to the new branding, Fanatics launched its sports betting app in November 2023.

Since then, Fanatics has used the sportsbook to further push its merchandising vertical; every wager placed earns “FanCash,” which can be used for sportsbook bonuses or for discounts when purchasing memorabilia or apparel from Fanatics’ retail partners, which include the official shops for the NFL, MLB, NHL, and NBA.

Pros:

  • FanCash allows the opportunity for bonuses to be used outside of gambling activities
  • Mobile app has an aesthetically pleasing design
  • Offers NFL live streaming for select matchups

Cons:

  • Does not operate a desktop or retail sportsbook in Arizona
  • App performs differently for Android and Apple users (Android users reported an overall more positive experience)
  • Banking options are very limited compared to the others in our “best” ratings

Bettor In Green’s Opinion: Stable financial backing from Fanatics’ merchandise operation will help the bookie continue to grow and improve, and that growth should help to drive traffic back to the merchandise outlets.

FanDuel Sportsbook AZ

FanDuel Sportsbook Arizona

As alluded to above, FanDuel frequently competes for the top spot in any state where it holds a license, and Arizona is no exception. FanDuel Sportsbook AZ frequently jockeys with DraftKings for the top spot in AZ sports betting handle, though DraftKings took the top spot in September 2024.

Beyond being a premium option for new sports bettors, FanDuel evolved from its DFS days to become a prominent same game parlay platform. The bookie’s SGP markets are unparalleled, with both pre-crafted options and remarkable flexibility for bettors to create their own parlays.

Pros:

  • User-friendly interface in all platforms
  • Same game parlay market offerings are the best in the business
  • Payout times are prompt, bordering on industry-leading for fastest withdrawals

Cons:

  • Fewer niche markets than other top competitors
  • Does not over a loyalty program
  • FanDuel doesn’t offer as many daily promos as others on this list (though it still offers many more than those we’ve yet to list)

Bettor In Green’s Opinion: FanDuel’s mobile betting app is the superior way to use the platform, and it might be the best in the industry right now.

Other Sportsbooks in AZ

Not all sportsbooks made it to the top of our list, but here’s a quick rundown of the other available and legal AZ sportsbooks:

Bally Bet Sportsbook AZ

Bally Bet Sportsbook aimed to use regional sports networks (RSNs) across the U.S. to help garner more registrations for its online bookie. However, in October 2024, FanDuel took over the RSN naming rights from Bally, leading to concerns about both how many users would use FanDuel instead and whether the sportsbook would see the same prominence after the name change.

Further complicating the matter, Bally Sports Arizona was the television home of the Arizona Coyotes, who were forced to relocate to Utah after the team struggled to find a permanent arena in AZ and owner Alex Meruelo failed to pay bills to a multitude of vendors.

Additionally, Bally Bet temporarily shut down its sportsbook platform in the summer of 2023 because the mobile platform was a mess. The new version has been a noticeable improvement, but we still feel Bally Bet is unlikely to become a go-to option for Arizona sports bettors.

BetMGM Sportsbook AZ

In our experience, BetMGM Sportsbook Arizona has shown some of the most player-friendly odds among operators in the Grand Canyon State. We’ve also found BetMGM to be one of the earliest betting sites to post futures odds, in some ways setting the curve for other bookies to follow.

BetMGM’s welcome bonuses are also often among the industry’s highest, with the most-used offer being a second-chance bet worth up to $1,500 (though at times this has scaled back to $1,250). This is a bonus amount few sportsbooks have been able to match.

BetRivers Sportsbook AZ

BetRivers Sportsbook is a product of Rush Street Interactive and got its start (and namesake) at the Rivers Casino in Pittsburgh. The iRush Rewards Program is a must for anyone using the BetRivers platform to maximize their experience with the operator.

In 2024, BetRivers Sportsbook AZ completely redesigned the aesthetic of both the website and betting app, replacing the dated look and feel of both platforms with a much more modern vibe. You may also enjoy the ticker of winning wagers on the website to highlight users’ successes.

Desert Diamond Sportsbook AZ

Desert Diamond opened its casino operations in Arizona in 1993, giving the bookie an excellent local angle when the state legalized online sports betting in 2021. It rolled out in February 2022 and has been a reliable option for Arizona gamblers ever since.

Our one minor point of concern with Desert Diamond Sportsbook Arizona is that customer support is only available from noon to midnight rather than 24/7 like many of the other operators on this page. Still, the frequent bonuses and multitude of retail options make Desert Diamond worthy of your time and consideration.

ESPN Bet Sportsbook AZ

ESPN Bet replaced Barstool Sportsbook as the brand name of PENN Entertainment’s sports betting platform following a 10-year, $2 billion deal struck in August 2023. Since then, ESPN’s on-air talent has been heavily involved in creating sports betting content for the bookie, though it’s important to know ESPN doesn’t set lines or provide the bookmaker with any lineup or injury information that wouldn’t be publicly available.

The ESPN Bet app is one of our favorite apps to use with a sleek design and lightning-fast load times. We also appreciate that the “featured parlays” also list the number of users who have played each parlay, which can help decide if a parlay is worth including on your betting slip.

Golden Nugget Sportsbook AZ

Golden Nugget sportsbook is still live in Arizona despite shutting down in multiple states in 2024. It now only operates in AZ, though a retail bookie is open in New Jersey.

Of all the sportsbooks mentioned on this page, we fear Golden Nugget is likely the next Arizona bookie to close its operations. The lack of operations in other states combined with a lack of bonuses for AZ users raises many red flags, and both the app and website can be difficult to find in app stores and web browsers. It’s best to steer clear here.

Hard Rock Bet Sportsbook AZ

Closing out our list is Hard Rock Bet Sportsbook, which launched in Arizona in April 2022. Despite a later start than most of the others here, Hard Rock Bet still ranks in the top half of all-time Arizona sports betting handle.

The Hard Rock Bet app is one of the highest-rated in the market, and for good reason. The design and functionality are both excellent, with both contributing to a strong overall performance.

How to Bet on Sports in Arizona

Betting on sports in Arizona is relatively straightforward, and with a little preparation, you’ll begin your gambling journey in a well-informed manner, ready to win big! Here’s how you can start to bet on sports in Arizona today.

  1. Learn more about the available Arizona sportsbooks: Each of Arizona’s 12 online sportsbooks has something different to offer its users, from bonuses and promotions down to the odds themselves. Be sure to check out our reviews of each operator to find which bookies will best match your gambling wants and needs.
  2. Submit your sportsbook registrations: After picking a few sportsbooks to include in your rotation, you can complete the signup forms directly from our sportsbook review pages. Under Arizona law, you’ll be required to provide, at minimum, your legal name, home address, email address, phone number, date of birth, and the last four digits of your social security number. This information will be used to verify your identity and to prove you’re legally allowed to gamble in Arizona.
  3. (Optional) Download the sportsbook’s betting app: Mobile sports betting is far and away the most popular way to bet on sports in Arizona, with roughly 90% of the betting handle each month coming from online wagers. Once your location is verified, you’ll be able to make your bets from anywhere in that state that has an internet connection. You can download any AZ sports betting app on Apple and Android devices.
  4. Research your preferred betting markets: Every bet you make should be well-informed and logical. Spend some time researching the matchups, line movements, weather forecasts, recent trends, and odds to give yourself the best chance of winning. In helping you find hidden betting value, Bettor In Green offers daily cheat sheets covering NFL, NHL, NBA, and MLB props markets with matchup insights and data trends over the course of the current season. Subscribe to the cheat sheets today for the low price of $9.99/month and they’ll virtually pay for themselves with your added winnings!
  5. Make a deposit and claim your welcome bonus: Before a sportsbook will award you any bonus credits as part of the welcome offer, you’ll be required to make a real-money deposit to place a qualifying wager, even if you’re only planning to bet using bonus bets. Your deposit amount is somewhat flexible, but it should meet these two criteria; first, it must be within your financial means, and second, it should be enough to satisfy the terms and conditions of the welcome bonus.
  6. Lock in your bets: Finally, click/tap on the game where your betting markets fall and add the lines you’re backing to your betting slip. Choose a wager amount for all lines or combine them into a parlay, then click/tap “Submit” so the sportsbook can accept your wagers. After your bets are approved, you’ll see them on the “My Bets” tab of your app or web browser page.

Legal Status of Sports Betting in Arizona

Arizona legalized sports betting in April 2021 and launched the industry statewide in September of the same year. Both retail and online sports betting were permitted once Gov. Doug Ducey signed HB 2772 into law.

State law allows for up to 40 sportsbook skins (two per licensee with a maximum of 20 licenses available). However, it is unlikely the state will approach that total any time soon, especially after five Arizona sportsbooks closed their operations in calendar 2024.

Furthermore, Arizona sports gamblers are allowed to wager on college sports, including on in-state teams. However, wagers on prop markets involving college athletes are prohibited.

History of AZ Sports Betting

Below are a few of the important dates in the history of sports betting in Arizona. We will continue to update this section as more news continues to unfold.

  • May 2018: The Supreme Court reverses its ruling on the Professional and Amateur Sports Protection Act of 1992 (PASPA), allowing states to decide for themselves whether to allow sports betting instead of implementing a national ban on the practice.
  • February 2020: The first attempt to legalize Arizona sports betting is introduced by Sen. Sonny Borrelli and Rep. Steve Pierce as SB 1525 is filed. Though the attempt was unsuccessful, it generated legislative momentum leading to the 2021 approval.
  • April 2021: Governor Doug Ducey signs HB 2772 into law, legalizing sports betting in Arizona. The bill also legalized daily fantasy sports, keeping the industry from operating in something of a legal limbo.
September 2021: The first online sportsbooks launch in Arizona.
  • 2024: Five Arizona sportsbooks shut down their operations. Unibet left the state in June, SaharaBets and SuperBook closed in July, Betway stopped accepting wagers in August, and Betfred closed its virtual doors in November.

Promotions and Bonuses at AZ Sportsbooks

When joining an Arizona sportsbook, it’s important to know the differences between the types of bonuses that may be offered to you as part of a new user promotion. Here are some of the most-used AZ sportsbook promos that you’ll want to familiarize yourself with.

  • Bonus Bets: Bonus bets are a way for sportsbooks to offer credits on their platform at a preset increment ($5, $10, $25, etc.) so that players won’t need to use real-money funds from their bankrolls. You won’t be able to cash them out directly (they’ll have at least a 1X playthrough requirement), but bonus bets can be played on their own as a single stake or alongside cash wagers to raise the potential profit amount without the same financial risk.
  • Second chance bets: Sportsbooks frequently offer second chance bets (sometimes called “no-sweat bets”) as part of a welcome bonus because it gives players the opportunity to turn a losing wager into a winning one. This bonus type awards matching bet credits (up to a certain amount) if a player’s qualifying wager settles as a loss, allowing them to use that same credit amount to make another bet and try to break even.
  • Odds boosts: Odds boosts are a promotional adjustment of the listed odds that will increase the potential payout if the wager wins. Lines including an odds boost can be added to your bet slip as a single wager or as part of a parlay, allowing the winnings to multiply quickly.
  • Profit boosts: Though profit boosts are functionally similar to odds boosts, the difference falls in how the boosts are applied. With profit boosts, a percentage of your profits will be increased upon the payout for your winning wagers within a given time period. For example, if your wager made a $50 profit and you had a 25% profit boost applied, your new profit amount would be $62.50, giving you more money for the win as pure cash and not site credit.

Arizona Sports Betting Apps

Mobile sports betting has long since surpassed retail sports betting as the most popular way to gamble on sports in Arizona. In any given month, roughly 90% of the state’s sports betting handle comes from betting apps and online platforms.

It’s more convenient than ever to place your wagers, which is a major factor in favor of mobile betting. You’ll find it far quicker to pull out your cell phone or tablet and place your wager than driving to a retail bookie, saving time and money in the process while avoiding the odds changing and becoming less favorable during your commute.

You’ll also miss out on betting bonuses that can further enhance your winnings or help offset losses. Most of the time, online betting, and in particular mobile sports betting, will be the more optimal way to gamble.

Below, we’ve provided an overview of the mobile betting apps in Arizona by showing the Apple App Store and Google Play Store ratings for each operator. Please note that these ratings change over time as new features are added and bugs are fixed; these ratings are accurate as of October 28, 2024.

Taxes on Sports Betting Winnings in Arizona

As is the case in other states, sports betting winnings in Arizona must be reported when you file your taxes. Winnings are taxed at both the federal and state level, so it’s important to make sure you report correctly on your returns.

Arizona’s gambling tax revenues go to the state’s General Fund, which covers everything from education to transportation, health care to responsible gambling initiatives, and more.

If you win at least $600 from a sportsbook, you’ll receive a W-2G tax form from the operator. This form is also available on the IRS website if you did not receive one, as you’ll still need to report the total.

Sportsbooks will not withhold your gambling winnings for tax purposes in most cases. It is 100% your responsibility to report your winnings correctly!

If you are itemizing your returns, you can deduct your gambling losses when calculating your net gambling profit.

Responsible Gambling in Arizona

Responsible gambling is important wherever and however you place your bets or make your wagers. With a strong online sportsbook presence and a bustling casino scene in the state, it’s important to familiarize yourself with Arizona’s responsible gambling resources.

Being aware of the warning signs of compulsive gambling behaviors is a great first step. These signs can include, but are not limited to, lying about the amount of money wagered, won, and lost, inability to hold conversations that aren’t related to betting, cutting responsibilities (such as work and family commitments) to gamble, and asking to borrow money to pay gambling debts.

Bettor In Green highly recommends bettors utilize the limits available at online sportsbooks to further reinforce responsible gambling habits. These can include limits on daily, weekly, and monthly deposit and withdrawal amounts, the amount of money you can wager on a given bet or in a given time period, and the amount of time spent at the sportsbook.

In some cases, the gambling self-exclusion list may be an extreme but necessary step. Arizona’s gambling self-exclusion program institutes severe legal penalties for gambling or attempting to gamble while on the list to act as a deterrent from betting activities; those on the list will also have all their sports betting accounts closed and will be prohibited from entering gambling facilities in AZ.

Finally, these state and national level resources can provide more information about responsible gambling and connect you with professionals in your area to help provide treatment if necessary:

  • Arizona Department of Gaming. Division of Problem Gambling: 1-800-NEXT-STEP, or texting “NEXTSTEP” to 53342
  • Arizona Council on Compulsive Gambling: 1-800-777-7207
  • National Council on Problem Gambling: 1-800-GAMBLER
  • Gamblers Anonymous: 909-931-9056
  • Gam-Anon: 718-352-1671

Future of Sports Betting in Arizona

Arizona’s sports betting industry has relatively stabilized since its September 2021 launch. As sportsbooks have come and gone, the betting handle numbers have remained relatively constant, with the seventh-highest lifetime revenue in the country (just over $18.5 billion as of September 2024).

While seeing five sportsbooks close in 2024 may alarm betting enthusiasts, market contraction is somewhat normal and ultimately results in a stronger industry overall. We would not be surprised to see Golden Nugget shut down as well given its steady closure across the U.S., though we do not have that same concern for other sportsbooks in Arizona at this time (save for Bally Bet following their RSN complications).

As other states legalize sports betting, Arizona is still well-positioned to remain in the Top 10 for betting handle.

Conclusion

To put a bow on things, Arizona’s sports betting landscape provides abundant opportunities for new and old gamblers alike. Now that you know more about the industry, it’s time to get registered for a sportsbook account today!

As a reminder, you can register directly from our sportsbook review pages, using applicable promo codes as necessary to get the best possible welcome bonuses. You can also sign up for the Bettor In Green Cheat Sheets, which provide daily prop market insights and analysis for NFL, MLB, NBA, and NHL action.

Good luck, have fun, and always gamble responsibly!
