Colorado Sports Betting

Colorado has one of the nation’s largest sports betting industries, with 13 online operators and 12 retail facilities. Here, we’ll explore the Colorado sports betting landscape and offer guidance for beginners.

| Last Updated:

Colorado launched its sports betting industry in May 2020 in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic, but the industry has flourished since then. As of March 2025, Colorado ranks sixth in lifetime sports betting handle (more than $22.6B wagered) among the 38 states that have legalized the practice.

With 13 online sportsbooks in Colorado, along with 12 brick-and-mortar betting facilities, the state’s gambling landscape can be a bit tricky to navigate. Fortunately, Bettor in Green is here to clear things up!

With this guide to Colorado sports betting, we’ll discuss the top sportsbooks in the state and review the history of sports gambling in CO. We’ll also provide tips for new bettors and highlight responsible gambling resources.

Best Colorado Sportsbooks

Below are our picks for the Top 5 best sportsbooks in Colorado. These bookmakers were selected for their bonus frequency and generosity, mobile app performance, customer service quality, ease of money management, and much more.

DraftKings Sportsbook CO

DraftKings Sportsbook Colorado

DraftKings had already begun growing its brand in Colorado well before sports betting was legalized as the company started by running daily fantasy sports (DFS) contests. It has since become one of the most popular sportsbooks in the country and is a dominant force in the Colorado market; it is the only entry in our Top 5 with a retail option in the state.

One of the biggest strengths DraftKings Sportsbook CO has to offer is its in-play betting array, with live odds of many matchups that are in progress. DK is also quite generous in offering bonus bets and odds boosts, which you can access on a daily basis with email and push notifications turned on.

Pros:

  • Abundance of bonuses and promotions
  • Niche and mainstream sports receive ample in-play betting market coverage
  • Retail presence at Bally’s Black Hawk North

Cons:

  • Chat response starts with AI before redirecting you to email support. It will not connect you directly to a representative.
  • Live streaming is rather limited
  • The odds in niche markets tend to carry a bit more juice in DraftKings’ favor relative to other top sportsbooks

Bettor In Green’s Opinion: DraftKings is a very well-rounded sportsbook that provides a solid platform for gamblers of all bankrolls and experience levels.

bet365 Sportsbook CO

bet365 Sportsbook Colorado

bet365 Sportsbook Colorado is a reliable choice for odds and line shopping, especially for international soccer betting enthusiasts. It also boasts impressive depth in niche sports markets, which makes for a respectable counter to mainstream sports and leagues.

In our experience, bet365 frequently provides promos with the lowest minimum qualifying wagers for welcome bonuses among Colorado sportsbooks. Wagers with a stake as low as $1 can lead to hundreds in platform credits; additionally, users are occasionally able to choose a welcome offer that aligns well with their gambling objectives.

Pros:

  • Impressive coverage of niche sports betting markets
  • Occasionally offers multifaceted welcome bonus offers with low minimum wager requirements
  • Odds boosts available daily for returning users

Cons:

  • No retail presence in Colorado
  • Fewer banking methods than others in this section
  • The app doesn’t perform as well for Apple users as for those on Android devices

Bettor In Green’s Opinion: bet365 offers top-notch customer support, and outside of a few minor areas, we don’t have a ton to criticize. However, we would like to see additional deposit and withdrawal options added to the bookie’s methods list.

Fanatics Sportsbook CO

Fanatics Sportsbook Colorado

Fanatics Sportsbook CO acquired PointsBet’s U.S. gambling licenses in the summer of 2023 and has been a surprisingly good addition to the industry. Despite not having a background in a gambling space (Fanatics is a titan in the world of sports merchandising and memorabilia), the bookie has delivered with an impressive mobile app.

Gamblers on Fanatics receive “FanCash” for every bet they place which can then be used to acquire betting bonuses. However, it can also be redeemed while making purchases at any Fanatics-affiliated e-tail site.

Pros:

  • Select NFL matchups can be streamed in the app, and Fanatics has discussed expansion to other leagues
  • The mobile app has a sleek aesthetic and has been reliable in Colorado
  • FanCash offers flexibility as a non-gambling-related alternative in addition to redemption as betting credits

Cons:

  • No web-based platform
  • No retail presence in Colorado
  • Fanatics’ Android performs better than its Apple counterpart

Bettor In Green’s Opinion: Fanatics’ merchandising vertical provides strong financial backing, allowing the gambling platform to develop and thrive while raising the bar for both businesses. Expansion to a web browser platform will be the next major step, and unlike other bookies, Fanatics does not need to pursue retail development.

BetRivers Sportsbook CO

BetRivers Sportsbook Colorado

Since it launched at the Rivers Casino in Pittsburgh in March 2020, BetRivers has provided sports gamblers with a rewarding betting experience through its web platform and mobile app. It was one of the first sportsbooks to launch in Colorado, and its app is one of the highest-rated in the industry.

The website and mobile platforms saw major upgrades in 2024 as BetRivers unveiled a more modern aesthetic while addressing issues with slow load times; both platforms are noticeably better. Furthermore, the iRush rewards program continues to benefit loyal BetRivers users.

Pros:

  • State-specific customer support expedites service wait times
  • Recent improvements to the web browser and app interfaces have led to a more fluid and dynamic user experience
  • Strong niche market coverage, including badminton, cycling, darts, handball, and jai alai

Cons:

  • Rarely offers deposit match bonuses
  • BetRivers has a ticker of “Real Winners” on the website which can be distracting at times.
  • List of available payout options is smaller than at other top Colorado sportsbooks

Bettor In Green’s Opinion: We found BetRivers to be a go-to option for odds shopping in niche sports, and it offers a good change of pace in mainstream leagues as well. The iRush Rewards program is essential for regular users.

FanDuel Sportsbook CO

FanDuel Sportsbook Colorado

Another worthy addition to our Top 5 is FanDuel Sportsbook CO, which, like DraftKings, was already a major DFS operator in Colorado before bringing its sports betting platform to the Centennial State. It has the highest-rated mobile app of any Colorado operator, with an intuitive, easy-to-use interface that is great for beginners.

FanDuel facilitates some of the fastest payout times among Colorado sports betting sites; on several occasions, we were able to get money into our bank accounts within a few hours of submitting a withdrawal request. While this does depend on the size of your withdrawal and the method you’re using, FanDuel can accommodate in most cases.

Pros:

  • Supremely intuitive mobile app is highly beneficial for new users
  • Vast selection of props markets for same game parlay wagers
  • Quick payout times make same-day withdrawal a realistic option

Cons:

  • FanDuel doesn’t offer a rewards program
  • Daily profit boost promos have lower maximum benefits than other top operators
  • Customer support over the phone is unavailable

Bettor In Green’s Opinion: FanDuel is sure to please Colorado gamblers, especially same game parlay enthusiasts. The bookie’s SGP availability is second to none.

Other Colorado Sportsbooks

In addition to our top sportsbooks list above, these other sportsbooks in Colorado can get the job done, though they may not be as beneficial or enjoyable overall.

Bally Bet CO

Bally Bet fell short of a place in our Top 5 because it has a smaller array of available markets than nearly every other retail and online bookie in Colorado. In our testing, it also had the longest withdrawal times by a wide margin.

BetMGM Sportsbook CO

BetMGM Sportsbook Colorado is our favorite sportsbook for futures betting, as the bookie is often the earliest to post lines and odds for long-term wagers. We’re also fans of BetMGM’s rewards program that offers a range of betting perks and non-gambling-related benefits

BetMonarch CO

Operating solely on mobile apps for Apple and Android devices, BetMonarch has a smaller list of available sports than most other Colorado operators, but we found that odds tended to be slightly more bettor-friendly than the big-name competitors. It lists that promos are “coming soon” in the app, but BetMonarch has yet to hint at a release date.

Caesars Sportsbook CO

Caesars Sportsbook Colorado has the largest retail presence, accounting for four of the state’s 12 brick-and-mortar sportsbook options. For online and mobile bettors, Caesars has a tendency to offer lucrative welcome bonuses that can exceed $1,000 in platform credits.

Circa Sports CO

Another smaller operation, Circa Sports is known for having “high limit” sports betting, accepting stakes that are significantly larger than the amounts that are accepted through other mobile platforms. In lieu of offering a rewards program or betting bonuses, Circa has reduced the “juice” so that however you bet, the odds will be more bettor-friendly than any of our Top 5.

ClutchBet CO

ClutchBet is only available in two other states (Iowa and Louisiana), and its odds listing reflects the smaller geographic reach. However, to offset this, ClutchBet introduced ClutchCash, which allows gamblers to create custom head-to-head props bets for NFL and NBA matchups.

ESPN Bet CO

ESPN Bet replaced Barstool Sportsbook as the brand face of PENN Entertainment’s betting platform. It offers loads of content from ESPN’s on-air talents, and users can cash in with the PENN Play Rewards Program.

SBK Sportsbook CO

Finally, SBK Sportsbook comes with a Price+ tool to allow you to instantly compare odds for betting markets across Colorado sportsbooks. The Parlay Picker suggests additional entries based on your betting preferences, and the bookie earns just 2% commission on all profits, compared to a 10-15% vig at most other Colorado operators.

How to Bet on Sports in Colorado

The process for betting on sports in Colorado will largely follow these steps, regardless of which sportsbooks you’re using:

  1. Brush up on the available Colorado sportsbooks: Bettor In Green has written detailed reviews of almost every Colorado operator (we’re still testing Circa, ClutchBet, and SBK Sportsbook to ensure you have the most accurate information). These guides are much more in-depth in addressing the points we discussed above. Give them a read to determine which sportsbooks will provide the optimal experiences for you.
  2. Get registered: When you fill out the registration form, you’ll need to provide the following information (at minimum):
  • your legal first and last name
  • your date of birth
  • your home address (P.O. boxes won’t be accepted)
  • your email address and a password to use when logging in
  • your phone number (for two-factor authentication)
  • the last four digits of your social security number.

This information will be used to verify your identity and legal betting status.

  1. (Optional) Download the sportsbook app: Mobile apps are convenient, easy to use, and can be a better alternative than retail or web browser alternatives. All Colorado sports betting apps are free to download, though the features of each will vary.
  2. Fund your account: Sportsbooks will require you to make a real money deposit before you can place your first wager (and in many cases, before you can claim bonus credits from a welcome promo). Choose a banking method from the available options that is most convenient for you, remembering withdrawals typically go faster if you use the same method you did for your deposits.
  3. Gain background info on the wagers you plan to back: Spend some time analyzing the matchups, reviewing weather and injury reports, observing betting trends, and seeking other expert opinions when possible to give yourself the biggest advantage. Bettor In Green has daily Cheat Sheets covering prop bets for NBA, NHL, MLB, and NFL action, available for $4.99/month.
  4. Lock in your bets: Once you’ve decided on the lines you want to back, open the sportsbook interface (either the mobile app or web browser) and navigate the menus to locate your desired markets. Tap/Click the odds to add them to your bet slip, then decide on a wager amount for each line (or check the box to turn your selections into a parlay). Once you’re ready, tap/click “Submit” and the bookie will approve your submission shortly thereafter (almost instantly in most cases). NOTE: Odds may shift from the time you add a line to your betting slip and when you’re ready to submit your wager. Check carefully before submission to ensure the odds you’re getting still provide you with a favorable chance to maximize profits!
  5. Collect your winnings: Once the games are over, collect any winnings from your bankroll. Allow up to 24 hours for your wagers to settle and for the sportsbooks to add funds to your account. If you don’t see them after that, reach out to customer support immediately.

Legal Status of Sports Betting in Colorado

Colorado legalized sports betting in 2019 with the passage of HB1327. The Legislature passed the bill in May, though it needed voter approval because of the proposed tax increase.

This led to Proposition DD, which voters narrowly approved (51.4% to 48.6%). With the passage, Colorado legalized sports betting and was able to launch its industry in May 2020.

Bettors in Colorado must be at least 21 years old to place a wager. When betting online, you must be physically located within state borders, and you’ll be blocked from wagering if the app or browser cannot detect your location.

College sports betting is growing in popularity, and Colorado bettors will be happy to learn they can wager on collegiate athletics, including games with in-state teams. However, player props are prohibited at all times.

Promotions and Bonuses at Colorado Sportsbooks

When you register for a Colorado sportsbook, you’ll almost certainly receive a welcome bonus promotion. Thus, knowing the different types of bonuses that may be offered to you will help you time your registration to maximize the benefits.

Here are a few of the most commonly offered Colorado sportsbook promotions and bonuses that you’ll want to get to know.

  • Bonus Bets: Bonus bets are how bookmakers offer platform credits at a preset increment ($5, $10, $25, etc.) so players don’t have to use real-money funds from their bankrolls. You won’t be able to withdraw them for cash (most bonus bets require you to play through the bonus funds at least once), but this bonus can be played on its own as a unique wager or in tandem with cash wagers to increase the potential profit amount of a winning wager without taking on the same financial risk.
  • Second chance bets: Sportsbooks most commonly issue second chance bets (sometimes called “no-sweat bets”) as part of a welcome bonus; they are rarely available to returning users, but they may pop up periodically. This bonus type only awards bonus credits if the qualifying wager settles as a loss, so the user gets an additional opportunity to win with that credit amount. Second chance bets usually match the initial stake amount dollar for dollar up to a certain threshold.
  • Odds boosts: Odds boosts adjust the listed odds for a specific line, increasing the potential payout if the wager wins. For example, a +200 underdog boosted to +300 would offer a 3X profit instead of a 2X if that result won. Lines that have received an odds boost could be added to your bet slip as a unique wager or included in a parlay, potentially leading to major multipliers.
  • Profit boosts: Profit boosts work similarly to odds boosts, but the difference is subtle. With profit boosts, the boost is applied as a percentage of your winning wagers rather than impacting the odds themselves. For example, if your wager made a $200 profit and you had a 15% profit boost applied, your new profit amount would be $230. This profit is also awarded as cash instead of site credit.

How to Redeem Promo Codes at Colorado Sportsbooks

Promo codes are not issued nearly as often as they used to be, as sportsbooks primarily offer opt-in promotions instead. Instead, referral codes are offered by sportsbooks so newly registered users can access the rewards while the referring user gets a kickback for bringing a new gambler to the platform.

If a promo code is available at a Colorado sportsbook, follow this process to redeem the code and claim your benefits.

  1. Open the sports betting app or web browser. NOTE: If you received a referral link, you MUST use that link to claim your benefits and complete the registration. Otherwise, neither you nor the person who referred you will be able to claim the bonus.
  2. Click “Sign Up” or “Join Now” to open the registration form.
  3. Locate the “Promo Code” or “Referral Code” field when filling out your registration. If you used a referral link, the form should have auto-populated the promo code field, but if not, you’ll need to enter the code manually.
  4. Fill out the registration form with your basic info and agree to both the sportsbook’s terms of service and the privacy policy.
  5. Deposit money into your sportsbook account. The amount should meet the minimum to allow you to claim the bonus offer, and it should not exceed your financial means. NEVER go into debt to claim a bonus offer!!!
  6. Complete any necessary steps such as placing your first wager or waiting 72 hours, according to the terms and conditions of the promotion.
  7. Wait for your bonus funds to arrive in your account or for information on non-gambling-related benefits from the offer. Remember to use any bonus funds you receive, as they will expire if unused!

Mobile Sports Betting in Colorado

In Colorado, roughly 99% of sports betting revenue comes from online sources, according to the Colorado Department of Revenue. The majority of this online revenue comes from mobile sports betting, as the apps are far more convenient than driving to a retail gambling facility.

With those figures in mind, having a great mobile app can lead to a large user base, as is the case for FanDuel and DraftKings, while a bad app can lead to closing down online operations altogether.

Below, we’ve compiled the ratings of all the mobile sports betting apps in Colorado in the Apple App Store and Google Play Store. These ratings are accurate as of March 2025.

Taxes on Sports Betting Winnings in Colorado

Sports betting winnings are a form of taxable income in Colorado, so you’ll need to report the totals when filing your returns. Colorado has a 4.4% tax rate on sports betting winnings regardless of your income bracket; this is in addition to the 24% federal rate.

If you make at least $600 from sports betting at a single bookie, that operator will send you a copy of Form W-2G to complete in your tax preparations. Otherwise, you will need to download the form from the IRS website.

Responsible Gambling in Colorado

Regardless of the amount of money you’re wagering, every sports bet carries risk; this is why most gambling operators have done away with the term “risk-free bets” (consider it a red flag if you see any that still use the term).

Ethical marketing practices are just one of the ways sportsbooks can practice responsible gambling, though the burden falls on all involved parties. Bookies should provide the tools for users to self-impose limits on money and time spent on their platforms while gamblers should abide by those limitations and inform themselves on warning signs of gambling compulsion.

Below are a few of the Colorado-specific responsible gambling resources:

One of the above resources is an application for Colorado’s gambling self-exclusion program. This allows individuals to voluntarily prohibit themselves from entering (or attempting to enter) gambling facilities and from accessing (or attempting to access) online betting accounts or face civil and/or criminal penalties.

While the program seems extreme, it can be a very effective deterrent for high-risk individuals. If you think you may be at risk, we strongly encourage you to consider applying for the program; if you’re already in the program, please keep with it!!

Future of Sports Betting in Colorado

Colorado’s gambling history has already been turbulent, making predictions for the future of sports betting in the state a challenge. Betting handle numbers are strong, but nine online operators left Colorado in 2024; five others shut down in 2023.

We’ve seen similar mass exodus events in other states, and usually, this is a sign of market stabilization. There may yet be a few more sportsbooks that shut down in Colorado, but we don’t expect this would significantly impact betting revenue or the gambling experience.

Another area of concern is the potential for legalizing online casino gambling. This would likely lead to a drop in betting handle, with bettors wagering their money elsewhere; however, there is little legislative momentum, and Colorado’s retail casinos are strongly against legalization efforts.

Conclusion

Colorado’s sports betting industry has already been successful in generating tax revenue, with nearly $100 million raised so far. This money goes to responsible gambling initiatives, water projects, infrastructure operations, and other important efforts around the state.

Now that you’ve learned about the available sportsbooks, bonuses, and responsible gambling resources, it’s time to dig deeper to find the bookies that best align with your gambling objectives. Our sportsbook reviews have loads of info about the available sports each betting site has to offer along with details about their rewards programs, app functionality and features, customer service, and much more!

Good luck, have fun, and always gamble responsibly!!
