Indiana was one of the earliest states to legalize sports betting with a launch in September 2019. This page provides a broad look at the Indiana sports betting landscape, looking at available online and retail bookies and the history of the industry.
Indiana was one of the earliest adopters of sports betting, legalizing the industry just under a year after the Supreme Court reversed its PASPA decision. It took just three months to get from legalization to launching the first sportsbooks in the state in September 2019.
Since then, Indiana has taken in more than $20 billion in lifetime sports betting handle (as of March 2025), ranking ninth in the country.
This page is meant to act as a guide to Indiana sports betting, reviewing the top available sportsbooks and providing a history of sports gambling throughout the state. We will also cover basic information for new sports bettors.
Bettor In Green has chosen the following five operators to be the best sportsbooks in Indiana.

Caesars was one of the first sportsbooks to launch its retail operation in Indiana, debuting at the Indiana Grand on September 1, 2019. It has since expanded to four other operations across the state (at three off-track betting facilities and at Caesars Southern Indiana).
The mobile application is a solid option as well, offering in-app streaming of NFL games and an excellent loyalty program that includes non-gambling-related rewards.
Bettor In Green’s Opinion: In some ways, Caesars Sportsbook Indiana acts as a better option for users with more substantial bankrolls, though the bookie is still a solid all-around option for bettors of any bankroll size and experience level.

bet365 Sportsbook IN is a reputable option for odds and line shopping, especially in international soccer. We’re also impressed with the depth of niche sports markets, though mainstream sports leagues still see reasonable coverage.
In our experience, bet365 has a tendency to offer lower minimum qualifying wagers for welcome bonuses than other Indiana sportsbooks. Bets of as low as $1 can qualify for hundreds in platform credits; in other instances, users have the flexibility to choose a welcome offer that better fits their gambling goals.
Bettor In Green’s Opinion: bet365 offers the most customer support communication options in our Top Five, and outside of a few minor nitpicky things, it is a reliable bookie. That said, we’d like to see an expansion of available deposit and withdrawal options.

FanDuel was already thriving in Indiana as a daily fantasy sports (DFS) operator prior to the Supreme Court’s PASPA reversal, and it used that popularity as a springboard for its online and retail sports betting operations. The rapid expansion of same game parlay markets that somewhat evolved out of DFS formats has helped push FanDuel to the top of the Indiana landscape alongside main competitor DraftKings (more on DK shortly).
With the highest-rated mobile app of any Indiana bookie, FanDuel is an outstanding option for novice sports bettors. It also facilitates some of the fastest payout times, sometimes within a few hours of a withdrawal request depending on the chosen withdrawal method.
Bettor In Green’s Opinion: FanDuel Sportsbook Indiana is likely to become a favorite option for gamblers, with retail sportsbooks acting as a fabulous counterpart to the online platforms.

Fanatics Sportsbook Indiana evolved out of the PointsBet platform, with the merchandising giant purchasing all of PointsBet’s North American gambling licenses in 2023. The bookie works closely with the apparel and memorabilia verticals through “FanCash,” which can be used for betting bonuses or purchases at Fanatics’ e-tail partners.
Of note, Fanatics operates in a mobile-only capacity, operating without a website or a retail option in Indiana. While this could be an area of expansion down the line, it seems unlikely at this time.
Bettor In Green’s Opinion: Early on, we had concerns that Fanatics would only use the sportsbook to drive traffic to its merchandise operation. We’d like to see a browser platform to further ease these concerns, but the app’s success thus far has shown Fanatics is making sure the verticals work well in tandem.

Last in our Top Five is DraftKings Sportsbook IN, which is the state’s leader in lifetime betting handle. DraftKings was also a prominent DFS platform (and is still quite successful in that space) but the sportsbook is rock solid in its live-betting market coverage.
The customer service with DraftKings goes above and beyond, especially in the detailed FAQ pages. We’d like to see phone support become available at some point, but the service team is highly responsive and knowledgeable, capable of answering any question we’ve thrown at them for testing in a timely and courteous manner.
Bettor In Green’s Opinion: We highly recommend DraftKings for regular inclusion in your sportsbook rotation for the well-rounded experience it provides. DK has a finely-tuned balance between competitive odds and betting bonuses to enhance your winnings.
Below are the sportsbooks in Indiana that missed the cut for our Top Five but are still worthy of consideration. We listed them alphabetically, so they aren’t necessarily in order of preference.
Bally Bet missed the cut due to a smaller array of available markets than almost every other retail and online bookie in the state. It also had the longest withdrawal times by a noticeable margin (you might be better off driving to the casino in person to collect your cash than waiting for an online withdrawal).
At times, Bally Bet had the most favorable odds for MLB markets we were backing, but it didn’t happen often enough to make the bookie a consistent option. It’s always worth checking, but we anticipate most Indiana gamblers will look elsewhere.
Betr Sportsbook launched in beta in Virginia and Ohio, and at one point had announced plans to launch in full in Indiana in December 2024. However, it has failed to do so despite having held an Indiana license since 2022.
The main draw for betr (which stylizes the lowercase “b”) is “microbetting,” which is short-term wagering within live events, such as “Will the Colts score a touchdown on this drive?” or “Will the Pacers shoot free throws on any of their next two possessions?” Unfortunately, betr still has not announced a firm launch date in Indiana.
BetMGM Sportsbook IN is a dream for futures betting enthusiasts, often publishing championship odds within hours of the previous season’s title being awarded. It also has competitive odds and a generous rewards program.
Like Caesars, BetMGM tends to offer high-reaching welcome bonuses at its online bookie, with bonus bets that can exceed $1,000 in credits at their maximum. Early cashout is also available in a multitude of markets.
BetRivers was the first online sportsbook to launch in Indiana, debuting on October 3, 2019. The iRush rewards program has been a valuable asset to BetRivers users since then, helping them maximize their profit potential.
In 2024, BetRivers gave its website and mobile app a major overhaul, speeding up load times, fixing bugs, and smoothing out the user experience. It’s a significant upgrade, and the state-specific customer service teams are even more responsive than before.
ESPN Bet has two retail locations in Indiana after replacing Barstool Sportsbook as PENN Entertainment’s sportsbook branding in 2023. The platform includes content from ESPN’s on-air personalities, though it’s important to know that ESPN does not set odds nor provide inside information to the bookmakers before reporting to the general public.
We’re fans of ESPN Bet’s mobile app look, but the website trails behind in aesthetic. Another unique feature is the promoted parlay tracker, which shows how many users have added the daily parlays to their bet slip.
Hard Rock Bet is one of the smallest operations in Indiana, though it does boast a retail option in addition to the online bookie. The app is one of the highest-rated in the state, with a smooth design and reliable performance.
Unfortunately, Hard Rock Bet’s coverage of niche sports markets (such as darts, volleyball, badminton, snooker, and esports) is severely lacking and in some cases nonexistent. The rewards program makes Hard Rock a bit more favorable, but
SPK only operates in Indiana and Colorado, but it offers several features you won’t find at larger bookies. The Parlay Picker tool offers suggestions for wagers to add to your slip, and SBK Price+ will instantly compare odds for betting markets across other books to ensure you’re getting the best bang for your buck.
Additionally, SBK takes a smaller percentage of winning wagers than other sportsbooks with just a 2% commission on all profits. This stands out compared to the 10-15% vig most other Indiana operators take.
The exact steps you’ll need to follow to bet on sports in Indiana will look very similar regardless of the sportsbooks you opt to use. Here’s how to start gambling today:
Find out what’s new and noteworthy in Indiana’s betting landscape:
Indiana legalized sports betting in May 2019 when Governor Eric Holcomb signed HB1015 into law. Retail sports betting launched in September of the same year with online sports betting launching in October.
Under state law, bettors must be at least 21 years old to participate in sports betting activities, though they do not need to be an Indiana resident. This requirement is the standard across most of the United States.
College sports betting is allowed in Indiana, including wagers on in-state teams. Player prop bets are also permitted, though they won’t be accepted after the game starts.
Below is a brief history of key moments in the history of sports betting in Indiana. We will continue to update this section as needed.

In addition to the online operators above, we’ve also listed all 15 retail sportsbooks in Indiana:
Promotions and bonuses are one of the most appealing factors to consider when choosing which Indiana sportsbooks to use. Here are a few of the most popular Indiana sportsbook promos options bookies will offer to bring in new users and reward returning gamblers.
Promo codes have fallen out of favor in recent years and are not issued nearly as often, with sportsbooks offering opt-in promotions instead. Additionally, referral codes are offered by sportsbook affiliates which gives rewards to both the referred bettor and the referring user.
When available, here’s how you can redeem promo codes at Indiana sportsbooks.
Mobile sports betting is typically the most convenient way to gamble in Indiana. Sportsbooks invest millions of dollars into their betting apps to ensure things provide the best possible user experience, as a bad mobile app can destroy a bookie’s user base.

Sports betting winnings are subject to taxation in Indiana and must be reported on your state and federal income tax returns. In addition to the 24% federal tax rate, Indiana has a flat 9.50% tax rate on retail and online sports gambling winnings.
If you win more than $600 at a given sportsbook, they will send you Form W-2G to report your winnings. This form is also available on the IRS website.
If you are itemizing your returns, you can deduct the amount of your gambling losses up to the amount of your gambling winnings. This will not work if you take the standard deduction.
“Responsible gambling” is referenced in every betting advertisement and publication from licensed Indiana sportsbook operators. The term refers to all actions performed by both betting companies and individual bettors to ensure all gambling is conducted in as safe and legal a manner as possible.
All betting activity carries some degree of risk, so taking proactive steps to minimize risk is crucial. We always encourage users to set limits on the amount of time and money they spend on betting apps and websites, and to learn more about the warning signs of compulsive gambling.
The following responsible gambling resources are available to Indiana bettors and their loved ones:
One of the most important references above is the voluntary exclusion program, which allows individuals to self-exclude from all online and in-person betting activities in the state. It is an extreme but effective solution, as violators of the program subject themselves to criminal penalties.
Bettor In Green encourages anyone who is at risk of developing a gambling compulsion to apply for the program and to renew their participation in the program once their initial term ends.
The most immediate opportunity in the future of sports betting in Indiana is the arrival of Betr Sportsbook, which has only launched in beta in Ohio and Virginia. Betr focuses on offering what it calls “microbets,” which are short-term live wagers based on in-game events (such as “Will Shohei Ohtani hit a home run in this at-bat?” or “Will the Eagles score a touchdown on this drive?”).
Though it acquired an Indiana license in 2022, it has struggled to take off and failed to meet its goal of a late 2024 launch. Betr has not announced an Indiana launch date, leaving bettors in the dark for now.
Another key consideration is the possible expansion of iGaming laws in Indiana to include online casino and lottery gaming. HB1432 is the second bill proposed to legalize online casinos after a different online casino bill failed to pass in 2023.
If the bill passes, sports betting revenue could see a slight dip due to bettors gambling using casino apps and websites instead. This dip would particularly impact retail sports betting, as brick-and-mortar casinos would have a more difficult time competing with the convenience factor of online options.
Indiana’s sports betting business is doing quite well, though it could soon fall out of the Top 10 in lifetime betting handle (through no fault of its own). Other states with larger populations have legalized sports gambling and are playing catch-up, but the industry should remain strong in the Hoosier State.
Now that you’ve familiarized yourself with the Indiana sports betting landscape, take some time to dig deeper into Indiana sportsbooks to find operators with whom you’d like to gamble. As a reminder, our sportsbook review pages cover welcome bonus information, available sports and leagues, signup processes, pros and cons, and much more.
Good luck, have fun, and always gamble responsibly!!

Yes, there are some limits on winnings in Indiana sports betting. Sportsbooks have been known to impose withdrawal limits and reduced maximum stake amounts for gamblers who repeatedly win large amounts of money.
Yes, you can bet on international sporting events in Indiana. Many of the top international soccer leagues and competitions will be available, but you could also find Spanish basketball, Japanese baseball, Swedish hockey, and much more!
