Since Michigan launched sports betting in March 2020, the industry has seen many significant changes. However, one constant has been steady year-over-year growth in betting handle numbers.

In 2024, Michigan sportsbooks took in more than $5.5 billion in wagers. That figure is expected to be even higher in 2025.

Here, we’ve provided an overview of the Michigan sports betting landscape by showcasing the top sportsbooks in the state. We have also covered responsible gambling resources and other important information for new gamblers.

Best Michigan Sportsbooks

Bettor In Green considered the following five operators to be the best sportsbooks in Michigan. They were chosen for a multitude of reasons, including navigability of the online platforms, retail presence throughout the state, bonuses, sports offered, and more.

DraftKings Sportsbook MI

DraftKings Sportsbook Michigan

Michigan sports betting enthusiasts likely knew about DraftKings even before sports betting was allowed following the Supreme Court’s PASPA decision thanks to the company’s prominence in the daily fantasy sports space. However, DK has since become one of the most popular sportsbooks in the U.S., reporting $4.8 billion in revenue after applicable bets had settled.

We are big fans of DraftKings’ user-friendly platform, with an intuitive interface in both the website and mobile app. The detailed FAQ pages will help novice bettors get started, and DK’s excellent selection of in-play markets for niche and mainstream sports will keep those bettors around.

Pros:

  • Retail location in Michigan (at Bay Mills Resort & Casino in Brimley)
  • Quality coverage of live betting markets
  • Lots of daily promotions, including odds boosts, profit boosts, and bonus bets

Cons:

  • Odds in niche markets are “juiced” in DraftKings’ favor to a greater degree than at other sportsbooks
  • Support chat on the website and mobile app is AI-automated and will only connect you to a service agent via email
  • You won’t be able to call customer service. The only contact methods are through support chat or email.

Bettor In Green’s Opinion: We highly recommend DraftKings Sportsbook Michigan as an option for new bettors, though experienced users will enjoy it as well. It frequently competes with FanDuel to claim the largest betting handle in Michigan in a given month.

BetRivers Sportsbook MI

BetRivers Sportsbook Michigan

BetRivers Sportsbook should be a part of any Michigan sports bettor’s arsenal due to its reliability when odds and line shopping to find the best value for the lines you’re backing. Sportsbooks frequently have subtle differences in the odds they’ve posted (with these variances due to their own matchup analysis, betting action, and a multitude of other factors), and BetRivers often provides value in that regard.

Founded at the Rivers Casino in Pittsburgh, BetRivers got a major facelift in 2024 to give a more modern look and feel to the website and mobile app. This not only sped up the rate at which odds loaded and updated but also has led to smoother navigation between menus and all-around better performance.

Pros:

  • User experience is markedly improved with recent developments and bug fixes
  • iRush Rewards program offers many user benefits
  • Customer support channels are specific to Michigan, which can help to speed up wait times and resolve issues sooner

Cons:

  • Payout options are somewhat limited compared to other Michigan bookmakers
  • The “Real Winners” ticker on the web and in the app can be distracting and feels unnecessary
  • Customer support is not available 24/7

Bettor In Green’s Opinion: We tip our caps to BetRivers for their work to renovate the sportsbook product (and the online casino, for that matter). The iRush rewards program offers useful betting bonuses and is a must for regular BetRivers users.

Caesars Sportsbook MI

Caesars Sportsbook Michigan

Caesars Sportsbook Michigan has the strongest retail presence, accounting for seven of the state’s 21 brick-and-mortar sports gambling facilities. However, if you’d rather use the mobile app, Caesars has a steady product that offers live streaming of select sporting events, including NFL games.

The bookie is also known for offering some of the most lucrative welcome bonuses in the state, with deposit matches and second chance bet promos that regularly exceed $1,000 in platform credits. We’re also big fans of Caesars’ rewards program.

Pros:

  • High-reaching welcome bonus offers for new players
  • Award-winning loyalty program
  • Live streaming is available for many niche and mainstream sporting events

Cons:

  • Odds boost offers tend to fall short value-wise, only applying to outcomes that already have highly unfavorable odds
  • Desktop site can be a bit clunky to navigate at times
  • Substantial upfront investment is often needed to maximize welcome bonus offers

Bettor In Green’s Opinion: High-roller sports bettors are best positioned to take advantage of all Caesars has to offer, though casual gamblers will still enjoy the product online or in person.

Fanatics Sportsbook MI

Fanatics Sportsbook Michigan

Since taking over PointsBet’s North American gambling operations, Fanatics Sportsbook Michigan has remained a strong competitor in states that allow sports gambling. The implementation of FanCash to allow users both gambling and merchandise/memorabilia discounts through Fanatics’ partner outlets is a successful factor in the bookie’s popularity.

Fanatics is the only bookie in this section that does not have a retail presence in Michigan, and it also doesn’t have a browser-based user interface. Despite the app-only model, Fanatics is poised to continue its growth across the state.

Pros:

  • Mobile application is aesthetically pleasing and reliable
  • Live streaming is available through the app for select NFL matchups
  • FanCash offers non-gambling-related bonuses in addition to gambling promo functions

Cons:

  • Does not have a retail presence in Michigan, nor is there a browser version available
  • Banking options are very limited compared to our other “Top Five” options
  • Disparities in mobile app performance for Apple and Android users (in general, Android users reported a more positive experience with the Fanatics app)

Bettor In Green’s Opinion: As we expected, the symbiotic relationship between Fanatics’ sports betting and merchandise verticals has pushed both to be better. The stable financial backing from memorabilia and apparel sales (as well as being the official jersey partner of the NHL) will help Fanatics continue to improve its sportsbook to provide a top-flight product.

FanDuel Sportsbook MI

FanDuel Sportsbook Michigan

Last but certainly not least is FanDuel Sportsbook Michigan, which had the biggest revenue of any U.S. sportsbook in 2024 (it reported $5.8 billion in revenue). Like its primary competitor DraftKings, FanDuel began as a DFS site before developing a top-notch sports betting experience.

FanDuel sets the standard for same game parlay markets, with player and team props that habitually surpass the availability at other bookmakers. If you don’t feel like creating your own, FanDuel will promote pre-crafted parlays that other bettors have placed, allowing you to add it to your bet slip with the tap of a button.

Pros:

  • All platforms offer a user-friendly interface that is great for beginners
  • Same-day payouts are available through many banking methods, depending on the size of the withdrawal
  • Same game parlay options are the best in the business

Cons:

  • FanDuel does not have a loyalty program
  • Niche sports can lack depth in available odds
  • Given the large user base, FanDuel does not need to offer bonuses that are as beneficial as other sportsbooks have, with lower caps on available offers as well

Bettor In Green’s Opinion: FanDuel’s mobile app is one of the industry’s best, and as you’ll see below, the app store reviews and ratings back up that claim. This operator checks many of the boxes for bettors of all skill levels, sports interests, and bankroll sizes.

Other Michigan Sportsbooks

While we strongly encourage you to use one of the above sportsbooks, the other sportsbooks in Michigan will allow you to effectively odds shop for the best deals, even if they don’t become go-to options. We’ve listed them alphabetically, not necessarily in order of our preference.

BetMGM Sportsbook MI

In our experience, BetMGM Sportsbook Michigan provides generous odds and posts them before other bookmakers, especially for futures markets. To a degree, this allows the bookie to “set the curve” for other sportsbooks to follow.

The MGM Rewards Program offers many perks to enhance your betting opportunities or earn benefits away from gambling spaces. In-person betting at the MGM Grand Detroit is also a thoroughly enjoyable experience.

Eagle Casino and Sports Sportsbook MI

Eagle Casino and Sports is managed by the Saginaw Chippewa Indian Tribe and uses odds from Kambi, a well-known gaming provider. It launched in April 2022 and is based out of the Soaring Eagle Casino in Mount Pleasant.

The bookie excels in covering racing events and provides ample coverage of mainstream leagues. Despite being a smaller operation, Eagle Casino and Sports provides outstanding customer service with 24/7 support.

ESPN Bet Sportsbook MI

Since replacing Barstool Sportsbook as the face of PENN Entertainment’s sports betting product, ESPN Bet has succeeded in many ways that the old branding failed. Content from ESPN’s on-air personalities and integration with existing ESPN products are expected to drive account signups, but PENN has a mountain to climb to make ESPN Bet compete with other top Michigan sportsbooks.

We’re big fans of the mobile app aesthetic, though disappointingly, the website doesn’t look as sharp or run as smoothly. It’s also possible that ESPN’s hyperfocus on gambling during its coverage of sporting events becomes offputting to viewers.

FireKeepers Sportsbook MI

FireKeepers Sportsbook launched its retail operation in June 2020 with the online sportsbook following in July 2021. Another Michigan exclusive, FireKeepers tends to have generous welcome bonuses and a smooth user experience however you decide to gamble.

However, one area that needs improvement is the futures betting markets: they are virtually non-existent. Moneylines, spreads, and totals are all fair game for mainstream leagues and even a few niche options, but props are somewhat limited, too.

Four Winds Sportsbook MI

If you’re looking for promotions in a sportsbook, we regret to inform you that you’ll need to look elsewhere. Four Winds Sportsbook is rather stingy with promotions, and even the welcome bonus for the sportsbook product only offers online casino credits.

That said, the actual sports coverage is quite impressive, especially for niche sports. Among other things, Four Winds’ sports list includes lacrosse, Formula 1, European hockey (Liiga and SHL), bowling, badminton, Australian Rules, table tennis, and cycling.

Play Gun Lake Sportsbook MI

Play Gun Lake Sportsbook launched in August 2021 while collaborating with PARX Interactive (which operates many of the games at Gun Lake Casino in Wayland). The in-person operation is known as “131 Sportsbook Lounge,” and both options use Kambi software for the user interface.

The app and casino/sportsbook are owned and operated by the Gun Lake Tribe, specifically the Match-E-Be-Nash-She-Wish Band of Pottawatomi Indians. It is exclusively available to Michigan bettors.

SI Sportsbook MI

SI Sportsbook initially planned to shut down its Michigan operations in late 2024, though recently it announced the bookie would close in Q1 of 2025. It is still operating for now, which is why we’ve included it here, though we cannot in good conscience recommend you register knowing a closure is imminent.

Legal Status of Sports Betting in Michigan

Michigan legalized sports betting in December 2019 when Gov. Gretchen Whitmer signed House Bills 4311-12, 4916-18, 4307, and 4308 into law. These bills let the state’s casinos establish retail operations and required online bookmakers to give retail sportsbooks a head start on the industry.

The first Michigan retail sportsbooks debuted in March 2020, though the COVID-19 pandemic complicated the rollout. Online sports betting launched in Michigan on January 22, 2021.

State law requires bettors to be at least 21 years old to set up their accounts, place wagers, and collect winnings. This is in line with most other states and with Michigan’s online casino age requirement.

Michigan bettors are allowed to wager on college sports including in-state teams. Additionally, wagering on entertainment events (such as the Grammys or the Oscars) is also permitted.

History of Sports Betting in Michigan

Below is a brief timeline covering the history of sports betting in Michigan.

Promotions and Bonuses at Michigan Sportsbooks

Promotions and bonuses are among the biggest factors bettors rely on when choosing which Michigan sportsbooks to use. Here are a few of the most common Michigan sportsbook promos offers you’ll find when registering and continuing to gamble:

  • Platform Credits/Bonus Bets: Site credits (usually just called “bonus bets”) allow users to gamble without using tangible funds from their bankrolls. Credits can be used at will while bonus bets are typically locked in at a pre-set amount (often in multiples of $5 or $10).
  • Deposit Matches: Deposit Matches award bonus bets when a user funds their account. The match is usually dollar-for-dollar up to a certain amount, though we’ve seen the match rate range from 20% to 200%.
  • Second Chance Bets: As the name would indicate, second chance bets award matching site credit when the qualifying wager settles as a loss. This gives the bettor another opportunity to make a profit using those funds, though most credits are not actually included in the payout if the second wager wins.
  • Profit Boosts: Profit boosts calculate a percentage from the profit of your winning wager (such as 10% or 25%) and tack that on to the profit payout. For example, a 25% profit boost on a wager that profited $100 would instead award $125 in the payout,

Michigan Betting Apps

Betting apps continue to be the go-to option for sports bettors, with some estimates that as much as 70% of sports wagers are placed through a mobile app. Having a reliable, easy-on-the-eyes mobile app is important, and a clunky program can be a death sentence for bookmakers.

Below, we’ve put together a table of the app store ratings of Michigan betting apps. This list is accurate as of March 2025.

Taxes on Sports Betting Winnings in Michigan

Sports betting winnings are taxable income in Michigan, so you’ll need to report your totals when you file your returns. The gambling tax rate for individuals is a flat 4.25% rate across all tax brackets.

Also, under Senate Bill 764, you may be able to deduct some of your losses while filing your return paperwork. If you end the year with a net loss on gambling winnings, you can deduct the losses but only if you are itemizing your return.

Responsible Gambling in Michigan

Responsible gambling initiatives should be taken seriously by betting operators and gamblers alike. To the highest degree possible, any gambling activity should be conducted in a safe, fair, and legal manner.

Michigan offers a gambling self-exclusion program known as the Responsible Gaming Database (RGD). This voluntary program allows Michiganders to revoke their access to online sports betting and casino gaming sites and apps, and can also prevent them from entering Detroit casinos.

There is also a Disassociated Persons List (DPL) that works differently than the RGD. Those in the RGD can prohibit themselves for either a one-year or five-year period while the DPL carries a lifetime ban with the opportunity to apply for removal after a period of at least five years on the list.

If you choose to apply for either list, we strongly encourage you to stick with the program and reapply as needed once your terms expire.

Here are a few of the responsible gambling resources available in Michigan that we encourage you to consider.

Future of Sports Betting in Michigan

After three Michigan sportsbooks closed in 2024 and one is set to close in Q1 of 2025, it’s fair to wonder about the future of sports betting in Michigan. However, we’ve seen this trend in other states where sports betting is legal, as the market tends to normalize after an initial surge of sports gambling options.

The balance of retail sportsbooks across the state with ample and improving geolocation technology for mobile coverage leads us to believe Michigan will surpass its $5.5 billion handle total from 2024 this year, and it is unlikely that bettors will leave the state to gamble elsewhere.

Furthermore, while DraftKings and FanDuel account for the bulk of revenue totals, local, state-specific options remain important and can be preferable to the national brands. We believe the investment from tribal casinos into sports betting ventures will continue to be profitable and worth the effort.

Conclusion

Michigan sports betting is well-positioned to remain a multi-billion dollar annual industry. The geographic reach of both retail and online sportsbooks means market access is greater than ever, and the relatively low tax rate on gambling winnings will allow gamblers to keep more of their winnings.

Now that you’re familiar with the overall landscape, it’s time to consider which sportsbooks and betting strategies are right for you! Head over to our online sports betting guides page to learn some tips and tricks for making smarter wagers, and browse our sportsbook reviews to find the best fit.

Good luck, have fun, and always gamble responsibly!!
